School Meals
Children's lunchtime currently runs from 12.10-1.00pm each day.
In order to maximise space on the playground for children to play in, we operate a staggered lunch for upper and lower school, so children in Years 3 & 4 eat when Year 5 & 6 are playing outside and vice-versa.
Children who have hot meals eat in the hall and packed lunches eat in the classroom. During the summer, children eat their packed lunch outside.
Hot Meals
The Government's free hot lunch scheme to all children in KS1 ends when children begin KS2 in Year 3.
Hot meals are provided by Chartwells, the same company who provide hot meals at Rose Green Infant School, but these will need to be purchased in advance from their website or by phone on 01243 836130 or 0845 603 7998.
Orders have to be made a whole week before the meal is required and orders can be for single days or groups of days. Menus can be found on the Chartwells website.
Packed Lunches
If children do not have a hot meal, they may bring in their own packed lunch.
Children are encouraged to ensure their lunch is healthy and to avoid sweets and fizzy drinks. As we have children with severe nut allergies, we also ask that no nuts or products containing nuts are brought into school. Children will need to have their own water bottle in school, which is kept in the classroom during the school day. An additional drink may be brought into school to have with their lunch if they wish.
Free School Meals
If you are in receipt of Income Support, Guarantee element of State Pension Credit or Child Tax Credit (Not Working Tax Credit), then your child may be eligible to receive free hot school meals, which will be automatically provided once you have registered.
Forms can be obtained from the school office.
We would encourage all parents who are eligible to register for Free School Meals, as this will also ensure the school receives additional funding for the school to spend on their individual child to improve their learning.
Children who register for Free School Meals are also eligible to claim a school jumper and tie, free of charge, for each academic year they register.
Children who are in receipt of Free School Meals are also eligible for free school milk.
In the event of school trips, if your child has hot school meals (be it free or pre-paid) they will need to bring a packed lunch for that day.
