The School Council is made up of two children from each class as well as each of the Year 6 team captains.

Children wishing to stand for election on the school council are given the opportunity to carry out a presentation to the class at the beginning of the year, before being elected by their peers.

The school council work hard on improving provision for children across the school, as well as supporting a number of charities.

Recently, we have carried out some initiatives on protecting the environment and have taken part in recycling batteries and carrier bags, which have both been an overwhelming success.

Lots of work has also gone into improving quality and enjoyment of breaktimes – restructuring of lunch time, playtime games and use of the outside environment.

Every year the School Council listen to the classes across the school and nominate a charity to support. Events such as Charity Weeks include bake sales, raffles and competitions which have raised thousands of pounds for charities such as Chestnut Tree House, Dr Barnardo’s, Hearing Dogs for the Deaf, Canine Partners, The Snowdrop Trust and St Wilfrid’s Hospice. Other past projects have included helping to write the new Anti-bullying Policy and looking at the provision for the Every Child Matters agenda. Lots of work has also gone into improving quality and enjoyment of breaktimes – restructuring of lunch time, playtime games and use of the outside environment.

Each year the School Council choose a charity to support by having charity weeks and bake sales.
