Mobile Phones
As a school team, we are becoming increasingly concerned about the impact of smartphones on our children’s well-being and development.
While smartphones are a significant part of modern life and offer useful ways to stay connected, there is now an increasing body of research highlighting the negative effects of early smartphone and social media use on children and teenagers. We have seen incidents of unkindness – and occasionally bullying – take place on social media and chat groups, but also the impact of easy access to the internet, including inappropriate language, images and videos.
If a child brings a smartphone/watch into school it will be confiscated. A parent will then need to collect the device from the office.
From 1st September 2026, Rose Green Junior School will be a child smartphone-free site.
- Smartphones – Children are not permitted to bring Smartphones (or Smart Watches) onto school premises.
- Basic phones – ‘Old Style/Brick’ (without internet or app access) will still be permitted for those who need them for the journey to and from school. As per policy, these must be handed to teachers at registration to be kept securely for the duration of the school day.
- Where parents have provided an ‘Old Style/Brick’ phone for their child to be used as an emergency contact device when travelling to and from school – the school will need to approve a child having a non-smart phone through parents completing a registration form. Mobile phone registration forms can be collected from the school office.
- Brick phones will not be allowed in school without a completed registration form.
