Physical Education

We compete in a variety of sports at Rose Green Junior School and take part in a number of local tournaments in sports such as football, netball, cricket and hockey, where we have achieved much success over recent years.

Physical Education & School Sport

The importance of physical literacy, competency, skills, communication and learning how to win and lose are at the forefront of our PE and School Sport curriculum. Our broad curriculum and extra-curricular programme places fundamental movement skills and developing a lifelong love of physical activity at the very heart of everything we do, whilst using the vehicle of a variety of different sports and disciplines to develop the children's physical skills, oracy and thinking.

Over the course of the year, we attend festivals, fixtures and competitions in our local community, as well as to the far reaches of Sussex in sports such as: netball, football, hockey, basketball and cricket, as well as so much more including: young leadership workshops, SEND-specific sports and swimming.

Dance and Gymnastics are also prominent features of our school's curriculum, with both being highly valued within each year group's teaching, as well as in our extra-curricular offering with events such as DanceHouse, which brings children from Y3 to Y6 together to showcase their love of music and movement.

At RGJS, we believe it is vital for children to understand their changing bodies as they grow up. Children are taught the value of nutrition, physical exercise, the effect that exercise has on the body physically, as well as mentally and how our body grows & repairs itself. Our children also explore what it's like to be an elite athlete, as well as how to recover from injuries, train carefully and fuel their bodies.

We have developed a young leadership programme that supports our children in growing their leadership capabilities, before they transition to secondary school. Our Friendship Squad, Bronze Ambassadors and Sports Leaders learn and further develop their skills of communication, coaching, officiating, organising and cooperation, and are a vital part of our lunchtimes and Sports Day provision.

Each year, we hold our Sports Week, where children have the opportunity to be immersed in the world of physical activity, trying out new activities and finishing with our Sports Day, where every child has the opportunity to represent their House Team in a carousel of activities, before taking part in competitive, and non-competitive races.
